Hello, P-assengers! How are you doing? We hope you’re doing fine. Firstly, do you realize that right now is February? Yeah, maybe some of you think that this month is a month of love. That’s why we’re going to talk about one of many love stories that ever happened in Indonesia. Can you guess whose love story is it? That’s right, Habibie and Ainun love story. But now, we’re just going to talk about Ainun.
Hasri Ainun Besari, that’s her full name. She was born in Semarang, Central Java, on August 11th, 1937. She is the fourth daughter of R. Mohamad Besari and Sadarmi Besari. She graduated from the University of Indonesia and worked as a doctor at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. Throughout her study at the Medical Faculty of the University of Indonesia, she was the best student. Even more, she was the prettiest one. Many boys were trying to get her attention. But she had already fallen in love with Habibie, her high school closest friend. Then, they got married on May 12th, 1962 on Preanger Hotel.
Shortly after that, they went to German as Habibie worked there. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a good economic state there. One thing that made them survived was their relationship. “For example, when I don’t have anything, and I have to work one day long and haven’t got any money, she cooked rice with meat floss or anything else that available for me. After that, she waited and didn’t eat anything”, said Habibie.
Then, Ainun got back to Indonesia in 1973 as Soeharto asked Habibie to come back. Five years later, she joined Dharma Wanita Organization, a non-department organization, as her husband became a member of the Indonesian cabinet. She also became the second and first lady of Indonesia from 1998 until 1999. She also became the chairwoman of YKBRP (Yayasan Karya Bakti Ria Pembangunan).
After Habibie resigned from his position, Ainun joined PPMTI (Perkumpulan Penyantun Mata Tuna Netra Indonesia) from 2000 to 2010 and became its chairwoman. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In January 2010, she was brought to Munich, German, and admitted to Ludwig Maximillian-Universität Hospital to get intensive care. She has been through various surgeries. But as people said, no one could avoid God’s will. She died on May 22nd, 2010, and her body was sent back to Jakarta and buried in Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery three days later. The funeral ceremony was conducted by the president at that time, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Her services in medical specialties, mainly on eye diseases, are remembered. In 2013, the Government of Gorontalo Province made a hospital named dr. Ainun Habibie Hospital on Limboto, Gorontalo.
Here are a couple of facts you need to know about her and her spouse. First, the couple was tremendously intelligent. Ainun herself was a physician, and her husband was a professor and an expert in the aviation industry. Both were the smartest in their school. No one could ever beat them up. Lastly, their love story has been filmed into a three-sequel film. These films prove that their love story will remain everlasting, and especially Ainun, she will always be remembered.
So, that’s all about Ainun. I hope you got entertained with this reading. See you later, P-assengers! Hopefully, you’ll get a partner one day!
