Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease caused by the immune system mistaking the tissues of the body’s organs for non-self. So that it makes the immune system attack organs in the body. The cause of this disease is not known with certainty but is usually associated with genetic and environmental factors. It can also be triggered by drugs, UV rays, and stress.
Now we know the meaning of lupus. But do you know the history of World Lupus Day? World Lupus Day was founded by the Canadian lupus community in 2004 which proposes to raise awareness and give information about lupus. At first, this commemoration day was initiated by 13 countries which started from a request for funds for lupus research. Until designated by the World Lupus Federation every May 10 as “World Lupus Day”.
This year’s world lupus day takes the theme ‘Make Lupus Visible’ which aims to increase public awareness about lupus and its impact on sufferers through the power of social media. This activity can be followed by donations, wearing purple clothes, and posting photos with the tag #MakeLupusVisible by explaining lupus.
