Hello, P-assengers! How do you do? We hope you’re doing fine. This month, Indonesians are celebrating Kartini Day. She was the one who raised Nusantara’s indigenous women. That’s why her birthday is being commemorated.
If we’re talking about Kartini, it wouldn’t be far from women, especially Indonesians. In this article, we will talk about the principles of women’s empowerment. What are they? These principles tell about how to treat women in society and how to appreciate them. Make sure you read it until the end, P-assengers!
As we said before, women’s empowerment principles are a movement that includes appreciation, dignity, and a state for all women. Empowerment can be defined in many ways. But if we’re talking about women’s empowerment, we’ll be defining it as an acceptance for women to get along inside decision-making.
Some women find it hard to develop. But, some of them find a way to go forward and keep going through their struggles. This unbalanced situation is happening because the concept that society has is wrong. Even though they’re still valuable human resources and have potential, they’re still having a lower status than men.
Established by the United Nations Women and the United Nations Global Compact, Women’s Empowerment Principles were made to solve women’s issues. They’re seven in total. Here are the principles:
- Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality.
- Treat all women and men fairly at work – respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all women and men workers.
- Promote education, training, and professional development for women.
- Implement enterprise development, supply chain, and marketing practices that empower women.
- Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy.
- Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.
These seven principles are already taken place in most places. Research shows that 20% up to 90% of the company has done these principles. But you may wonder, what is the purpose of these things? In fact, there are at least three staple purposes of the seven principles, which is to raise women role on developing self-potential to be independent and creative, to raise awareness that women are valuable human resource, and to lift women’s ability on managing a small scale business up to high scale business.
So, that’s all about Women’s Empowerment Principles. We hope that everyone can appreciate women. Thanks for reading. See you later, P-assengers!
