Carl Jung’s Theory in Extravert, Introvert, and Ambivert

Hello P-assengers! How are you all? We hope you guys are well! Anyway, today’s topic will be really useful for you guys! More precisely, it’s useful for you to know more about yourself! So before you know about other people, you must know about yourself first. Curious about the topic? Let’s just go ahead and discuss it.

Following the title, we will discuss the theory put forward by the psychologist, Carl Gustav Jung, in 1920, which is a theory of terms that describes a couple of person’s personalities, composed of Introvert, Extrovert, and Ambivert. What do these terms mean and what about the differences between the three personality types? To make it clear, let’s discuss them one by one!

Let’s start with Introverts. According to Jung, introversion is a spectrum that converts psychic energy inward with a subjective orientation. Most psychologists refer to introverts as people whose energy tends to expand through reflection and shrink during interactions.

Generally, an introverted person will experience fatigue or discomfort when the person is in a busy social environment. Also, that person will prefer to be alone and have a relatively small circle of friends. The person will be more comfortable doing activities or work by themselves. Important note, an Introvert just prefers not to meet many people, and that doesn’t mean an Introvert is someone who will never chat with other people or is anti-social.

Some introverted people have several characteristics. They will find it difficult to make small talk with other people. The person will then feel lonely even in a crowd. An introverted person is a reflective and introspective person, so that person will think first before doing something.

After talking about the Introvert, let’s discuss the Extrovert! An Extrovert person is very different 180 degrees from an Introvert person. The extrovert is generally described as someone open, high-energy, or who tends to talk a lot. People who have this personality tend to enjoy social situations, seek new experiences, feel comfortable in groups, and prefer busy activities.

Some extroverted people have several characteristics. The person enjoys getting together with many peoples because meeting with people makes them more excited. The person doesn’t like to do ‘me time’ because ‘me time’ is just a boring activity for them. In friendship, an Extrovert person is a ‘social butterfly’, so their friends sometimes got confused because the person is friends with people who are beyond their expectations. And the most specific characteristic is, an extroverted person is an open and optimistic person, they keep having a positive mind while they having a problem and not being dragged on their problem.

Last but not least is Ambivert! Most psychologists agreed that Ambivert is a personality type that is between Introvert and Extrovert. But, the ‘Ambivert’ term itself is not introduced by Jung, but only recently appeared, even though some people still identified themselves as Ambivert people.

Some ambivert people have several characteristics. That person usually is a good listener and communicator because they can choose the time that they have to talk and listen. Then, they can adapt well to the situation they were in. They enjoy gathering with their friends but still enjoy and need their ‘me time’. However, despite having the characteristics of an ambivert, a person still tends towards one spectrum, either introverted or extroverted. Therefore, usually, an extrovert who is shy or an introvert who has an open nature is often identified as an ambivert.

To make yourself more sure about your personality including which one, apart from your self-diagnosis, you can test on some professional tests. What people do most commonly is The Big Five Personality Test. But, apart from that, there is a test that is quite popular, namely the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which is usually carried out by a recruiter in the job selection process.

Now guys, after we discussed the personality terms introduced by Carl Jung’s theory, which one do you think suits you best? Are you an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?

That’s enough for today, P-assengers! We hope this article can deepen your knowledge about life and help you get to know yourself better. Sometimes you may feel different from society, but actually, maybe you only have a different personality from others. That’s all from us, goodbye! See you again, P-assengers!
